A man was shot Sunday evening west of Carthage, Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake said.

The man’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, Lake said.

Deputies responded just before 11 p.m. Sunday to County Road 1105 for a 911 call about a shooting at a home, Lake said. While responding, Lake said the victim also called 911 to report he had been shot.

“Neither caller was able to provide any information on a description of the actor, but reported that the actor had left the scene,” Lake said.

The man was taken to the hospital by EMS personnel. Lake said deputies secured the scene and were working into the early morning hours to investigate the case.

“Investigators continue working on the case today with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, Lake said.

Anyone with information on this case, or other criminal investigations, is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (903) 693-0333.
