A whole lot of teddy bears have popped up around Carthage to give children a fun activity to do while everyone is asked to stay at home amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

It's called the Great Carthage Bear Hunt.

It's been a citywide effort. Organizers were giving Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29 as the hunt's time frame, but homes, shops and other businesses were already putting their bears — and other animals — out for visitors Wednesday and Thursday.

Cristie Nutt Ferguson, who started "The Great Carthage Bear Hunt" Facebook group, wrote Thursday that she had just tagged five or six friends on Monday and that it had grown to a "panda pandemic of the best kind."

Bear hunters are asked to keep practicing social distancing: Don't gather in groups to take photos with the bears other than your own family, and don't touch the bears.
