The Sammy Brown Library is beginning curbside service and limited computer access now that a statewide shelter in place order has expired.

The Sammy Brown Library in Carthage is set to offer curbside service and limited computer access beginning Friday.

The changes come as Gov. Greg Abbott is let ting his statewide shelter in place order expire this week.

Library Director Kim Turner said curbside service will be Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Patrons can reserve books or movies online or by calling the library at (903) 693-6741.

Turner said the library will continue waiving late fees for now, but she said that items checked out since the library’s closure on May 17 will need to be returned before new items can be picked up.

A drive-thru dropbox is open 24 hours a day to return items.

Turner said the library’s public computers will be available by appointment only Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Social distancing requirements mean only three computers can be used at a time, and the library will have a one-hour time limit for use.

Turner said the library has also strengthened its Wi-Fi signal so that people can access it from the parking lot.
