Tilley wins $2,000 Marine Technology Society Scholarship
A Carthage resident was recently awarded a scholarship. Grace M. Tilley received a $2,000 Marine Technology Society Scholarship for Graduating High School Seniors. Tilley, a graduate of Carthage High School, is a freshman in the Marine Biology Program at Texas A&M University – Galveston. The Marine Technology Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit professional society comprising ocean engineers, technologists, policy makers and educators. Incorporated in 1963, the society provides the ocean community with forums for the exchange of information and ideas through its peer-reviewed MTS Journal, conferences, newsletters and Web site (www.mtsociety.org).
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines is proud to host the regional Punt Pass and Kick Tournament. The tournament will be held on Saturday, October 4 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at West End Park, prior to the NFL Youth games. West End Park is off of West Houston Street is about ¼- ½ mile past the Marshall Junior High School.
The Clayton Community Center Association will hold a soup supper on October 7, 2007 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Clayton Community Center. This is dine in or take out. The prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. The meal includes soup, cornbread, sandwich, dessert and a drink.
With Halloween less than a month away, one local business is already planning their fall festival. Carthage Healthcare Nursing Home will hold its Third Annual Fall Festival on Monday, October 6, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m. Carthage Healthcare Nursing Home is located at 701 S. Market in Carthage. There will be lots of free food and game booths.
Several arrests were made by the Carthage Police Department as a result of an investigation into possible drug related activity in a Carthage neighborhood.
The arrests of five people suspected of drug activity were affected through information the Carthage Police Department received from concerned citizens. The arrests were made over a period of two days. Katrina Elizabeth Stogner, 29 of Beckville, was arrested by CPD Assistant Chief Michelle Jeter for possession of marijuana less than two ounces Tuesday, September 23, 2008. According to CPD Chief Duane Baushke, the juvenile male who was with Stogner was also arrested for possession of marijuana.
